Not every specialist with a higher legal education can apply for the position of a judge. To get such a job, you need to pass a special qualification exam, during which the candidate's professional knowledge will be tested.
Instructions
Step 1
Find out if you meet the requirements for judges. You must have a law degree and at least five years of legal experience. Some courts, such as the Supreme Arbitration Court, require 10 years of experience. You should not have problems with the law, either in the past or in the present. Also, a person with dual citizenship cannot become a judge.
Step 2
If you are qualified to be a judge, sign up for an exam. It is conducted by a special examination committee at the qualification board of judges. To sign up for the exam, you need to contact the secretariat of the court where you intend to work. There you can be told how often the appropriate commission is collected.
Step 3
Apply to participate in the exam. It can be addressed to the local or the Supreme Qualification Collegium of Judges (VKKS). When asked, you must decide whether you want to take the exam in order to become an arbitrator or to work in a court of general jurisdiction.
Step 4
Prepare for the exam. To do this, study tickets and specialty questions. They are available for review on the official website of the VKKS.
Step 5
Select a ticket for the exam. Answer theoretical questions and solve problems from everyday judicial practice. Thus, the exam will test both your knowledge of the law and your ability to apply it in a specific situation. You will be given two hours to prepare, after which you will have to submit the answers to the commission. If necessary, answer the additional questions that have arisen.
Step 6
Wait for the announcement of the exam results. They will be announced on the same day. You will receive a score on a five-point scale. If your score is 3 or higher, then you will receive a certificate giving you the right to apply for the position of a judge. If the grade is “unsatisfactory”, you can retake the exam later.
