The position of boiler operator can be taken by persons at least 18 years old who have passed a medical examination and have a higher or secondary vocational education. Before being allowed to work, the operator must undergo an internship under the supervision of an experienced employee and a knowledge test.

The boiler house operator performs a responsible job. He is responsible for the health of the heating equipment, is engaged in the maintenance of boilers and the adjustment of instrumentation used to record fuel consumption and control steam engines.

Obligations of the boiler room operator

In accordance with the job description, the operator on duty is obliged to maintain the operation of the boiler equipment during his entire shift, which usually lasts 12 hours. At the end of the shift, the operator must hand over the workplace to the next person on duty.

The operator is obliged to understand the technical features of the boilers and know how the quality of the fuel affects the combustion process. He also needs to familiarize himself with safety precautions when working with heating equipment. In addition, the operator needs to understand the principles of operation of steam engines, centrifugal and piston pumps, as well as have knowledge of the technologies of operation of external heating networks and the causes of malfunctions in the operation of heating networks.

List of duties of the boiler operator:

- melting of boilers, taking into account the observance of safety measures and firing up rules;

- regulation of uniform fuel combustion;

- keeping records of readings of measuring instruments (water temperature, steam and water levels, steam pressure, etc.);

- monitoring the health of boilers;

- regulation of the boiler load in accordance with the schedule specified in the instructions;

- elimination of malfunctions in the operation of boiler equipment;

- ensuring the smooth operation of the equipment.

In the event of an emergency, it is necessary to ensure the stoppage of the boiler house, take measures to eliminate the accident and call employees specializing in the elimination of emergency situations.

Responsibility of the boiler operator

The operator, while on duty, is responsible for the safe and smooth operation of the boiler room. He is also responsible for the sanitary condition of the boiler room. Therefore, before handing over the shift, he needs to make sure that the workplace is clean, check the register of instrument readings.

The duty operator must fulfill his duties in accordance with the labor legislation of the Russian Federation. For improper performance of duties, he may be fired. The operator is responsible for causing material damage to the boiler room (in accordance with applicable law).
