If you suspect that your writing talent is dormant in you, and this suspicion is supported by hundreds of written pages that no longer fit on your desk, then it's time to seriously think about the format of your work.
It is quite reasonable to assume that a full-fledged work of fiction such as War and Peace is probably beyond your reach. Therefore, it is worth turning your efforts to trying to write a script. The script is easier to write than a novel or detective story, but it has a specific format and has a set of special rules that you should definitely know. So, we write the script of the film. Yes, yes, let's not waste time on trifles. A corporate party or birthday scenario is the lot of losers. We will be creating a full-length feature film. What if Hollywood buys it? Although, however, if Columbia Pictures thinks for a long time, our script will not be lost - it can be easily remade for the script of the best friend's wedding, because all scripts are generally written according to the same rules.
Idea and characters
Film textbooks usually advise you to start with the general idea of the whole story, that is, with an idea. However, the idea is too global a category. In addition, a hundred or two ideas are always swarming in the head of a talented person. How to choose one among this multitude - the only one? There is an exit. Experienced screenwriters advise starting with the characters. Come up with a main character. Think about him, endow him with positive and negative qualities. Make him a truly living character. If this succeeds, then you will not have time to notice how he himself will establish relationships with other characters - a charming heroine will appear next to him, and after that the appearance of the villain will not be long in coming. The relationship between the characters will tie up, become entangled, minor characters appear, conflicts arise, the possibility of their solution, and then the main thing - the general idea of the film - is not far away.
Structure
Of course, you are a great talent, but when presenting the material, you should not reinvent the wheel. Even such experimenters of cinema as Fellini and Tarantino, wanting to write a script, had to adhere to the standards invented long ago (back in ancient times). The script standards are a three-act structure: the opening, plot development and climax, and finally the denouement. The plot (or introduction) should not take more than 10-15% of the entire volume of the script. The task of the introduction is to acquaint the viewer with the main characters and to voice their basic desires and aspirations, as well as describe the initial problems they got into. Most of all the material will fall into the second part of the script - here the main course of events will unfold. New problems will arise, new heroes will appear until the moment when the emotional tension of the spectacle reaches its maximum. No, the maximum is not the end. This is the climax. As a rule, the culmination occurs in a section very close to the final. Most often, this is either the disclosure of the biggest conspiracy, or the moment the spy is exposed, or the return of his lost memory. But it is necessary to leave a little space for the denouement, that is, the description of the logical conclusion of the adventures of the protagonist and some philosophical conclusions regarding the whole story.
Casting fishing rods
It would seem that the scenario has come to an end. But you didn't just decide to write it - the script needs to be sold! Manage to end the story with a hint of a possible sequel, because the producers love sequels so much …
