A photographer's portfolio is a collection of his best works, having looked at which, the client could get acquainted with his style and decide whether to order services for this person. It also usually contains information about awards and prizes for the best photographs. Usually, a portfolio is posted on a website on the Internet, but many people also prefer to make a photobook - this is an album that contains the best pictures. The photobook is convenient because you can demonstrate it to the client during live communication.

Instructions

Step 1

Choose your portfolio photos very carefully. All pictures that you decide to post there must be of high quality. You must be sure that they are complete works: for example, if you think that the image needs improvement in a graphic editor, then do it first, and then add it to your portfolio.

Step 2

When there are a large number of photographs, it can be difficult to select the best from them, especially if the photographer has never tried to do it before. So be prepared to spend a few evenings doing this. It is best not to rush, but calmly and meticulously review everything that you have filmed for the entire period of your professional activity.

Step 3

In order to select the highest quality photos, first go through your entire archive, copying the images that you would like to put in your portfolio into a separate directory. If there are too many photos there, then look at all of them several more times, deleting those that seem worse than the rest. Sooner or later, the best shots will be selected.

Step 4

For those involved in various types of photography, you can group your work into portfolios by genre. For example, a wedding photo in one place, portraits in another, genre photography in a third, and so on. If a client is interested, for example, in subject photography, he will immediately be able to evaluate your work in this direction, without looking through the mountains of other images.

Step 5

Most likely, you will create a portfolio on the website and in the form of a photo book. In both cases, you will need to publish some information about yourself. It makes sense to write contacts, information about awards and prizes in both cases. The approximate prices for your services should definitely be posted on the website on the Internet, but in the photo book it is better not to touch on this issue at all. You can change your opinion about the cost of your services, it will be easy to fix it on the website, but not in the paper edition. In the book, you should definitely give a link to the full version of the portfolio posted on the Internet.
