A portfolio is necessary for people of creative professions. It is with its help that you can interest a potential employer, show the level of your skills and get a decent job.

Step 1
Build a portfolio to suit your profession. For example, a journalist's portfolio should consist of his best articles, a professional photographer - from high-quality photographs, including those that have been noted by experts and won prizes at competitions. The model in the portfolio demonstrates her photos or videos with her participation, and the designer - examples of sites created by him, samples of interiors, advertisements, etc.
Step 2
Include a variety of examples of your work in your portfolio. For example, if you are a model, then select your pictures taken in different genres. Do not include too many works of the same type in your portfolio. If, for example, a designer's portfolio contains only one website layout and twenty-five examples of advertising leaflets, then such a person is unlikely to be ordered to develop new sites, because his specialization is obvious.
Step 3
Choose not only the best, but also the average quality work. Of course, you shouldn't include bad samples in your portfolio, but it shouldn't consist of solid masterpieces either. Show the potential employer a few jobs that are typical for you, so that he does not overstate the requirements. Otherwise, you may be required to do too complex work for a standard fee.
Step 4
Never use other people's work in your portfolio. It is illegal, unethical and will get you nothing but trouble. Even if you present as your other people's work of very high quality, and as a result find several lucrative orders, you will still not be able to fulfill them at the proper level.
Step 5
Organize your portfolio. Highlight categories, and then divide all jobs into these categories so that a potential employer can easily find and rate jobs of interest. Let each category include several representative examples. However, do not get carried away and do not include too many works in your portfolio - hardly anyone will want to look at each of them to assess the level of your skill.
