There is a common misconception that designers and other creative professionals should not follow any rules, including when compiling a portfolio. The more extraordinary it is designed, the more it indicates the talent of the applicant. This statement is not entirely true - a well-formed designer portfolio assumes the presence of some required elements.

Step 1
Prepare a carefully thought-out resume, including the maximum amount of information that characterizes your work experience, a list of training places, general information. Do not ignore the columns in which you must indicate the level of language proficiency, and also do not forget to indicate all the additional skills that you received - it may even be useful to mention taking courses in beading or making sushi.
Step 2
Describe your hobbies and interests as fully as possible in your resume. Be careful: employers pay attention not only to the content, but also to the form of submission and design. Solve a difficult creative problem: without going beyond the official text, prepare really creative and interesting material about yourself that can captivate and interest.
Step 3
Collect examples of your work, especially focusing on completed projects. Gather feedback and recommendations if possible. Feel free to attach samples and sketches. A good addition to your portfolio will be a project under development that can reflect the specifics of your creative process.
Step 4
Don't include too many works in your portfolio: avoid oversaturation, which will blur the overall impression. This is another challenge for your design thinking: the portfolio should tell about you as fully as possible, while not tiring the employer or causing overexertion from the abundance of information. In more informal cases, it is possible to prepare a video presentation. However, if you use this method, do not give up paper duplicates.
Step 5
Consider the requirements of the organization to which you plan to submit the portfolio. Make a basic version of it and adjust it for each individual company. By doing this, you will show your real interest in cooperation with them and indifference.
