Are you going to buy a knife, but do not want to have problems with the law and government officials because of it? You need to find out which knife is considered a combat knife under the current legislation and how not to find yourself in a difficult situation due to carrying cold steel.
Instructions
Step 1
When buying, decide what kind of knife you need and how you will use it later. In our country, it is absolutely forbidden by law to carry butterfly knives, as well as knives with an automatic (firing) blade. Also banned are throwing knives, kukri knives and some other specific types designed specifically for inflicting damage on the enemy. Tourist and household knives are allowed. If a combat model knife is found with you, it will most likely be taken away.
Step 2
When purchasing a knife, ask the store for a certificate, which indicates the purpose of this knife and its main characteristics. The certificate must be carried with you at all times. If you present it to a police officer and if there are no additions or changes on your knife, no one has the right to present you with any claims.
Step 3
Study the GOSTs and make sure that your knife is not officially a weapon. Knives that have the following features are not considered melee weapons:
• knives with a blade, the length of which does not reach 90 mm.;
• knives with a finger stop less than 5 mm.
• knives with a thickness exceeding 6 mm.
• knives with a handle shorter than 70 mm.
• knives with a filed blade
• knives made of soft material such as plastic.
There are some more signs by which the knife cannot be classified as cold steel. But if only one sign from the above list is present, the police have no right to take away such a knife and demand permission for it.
Step 4
If you did not have a certificate with you, employees can take the knife away from you, but in this case, be sure to ask for an act of seizure, signed by attesting witnesses. Subsequently, an examination must be carried out on this document, which will prove that this knife is not a weapon. Sometimes it is just enough to come to the department with a certificate, and the blade will be returned to you.
