The security profession is one of the most demanded today. But not everyone can work as a private security guard. In order to obtain a document certifying the right to this work, it is necessary to undergo training in a special non-state educational institution, pass a qualifying exam and obtain a certificate of a private security guard of the established form.

Step 1
Many people call the identity of a private security guard a license. This is not entirely true - a license, in accordance with Federal Law No. 128-FZ of 08.08.2001, "On licensing certain types of activities", can only be obtained by a legal entity. Therefore, you will not be able to check the security guard's license, you can only ask him to show his certificate of a private security guard of the established form.
Step 2
In accordance with the Law of the Russian Federation "On private detective and security activities" as amended on 03.12.2011, a citizen of the Russian Federation who has reached the age of 18 and has received a private security certificate in accordance with the established procedure can work as a private security guard under an employment contract with a licensed private security company. This document gives the right to conclude an agreement and work in positions directly related to the provision of security services.
Step 3
Check the security guard's ID. It must indicate the category assigned to him based on the results of the qualifying exam. Private security guards are assigned only three grades: fourth, fifth and sixth. The fourth category gives the right to carry out security activities only with the use of special means. A fifth-grade security guard can carry out his activities using civilian self-defense weapons (gas canisters, stun guns) and special means. A security guard with the sixth grade can use the whole range of permitted types of weapons, including service firearms, in carrying out his activities.
Step 4
Pay attention to the validity period of the certificate. If it is received for the first time, then its validity period should be limited to 3 years, subsequent certificates are issued for a period of 5 years. In addition, the security guard's certificate must be of a new type, entered into force on 01.01.2010. Old-type documents, even if their validity has not yet expired, are invalid.
Step 5
According to the changes in the law, security guards of the 4th and 5th grade are required to undergo verification and confirmation of their qualifications every two years, and security guards of the 6th grade - annually. You can demand a document confirming that the guard has passed such a check. This document is a copy of an extract from the minutes of the meetings of the ATS commission in your area. The entry on pages 20-22 of the certificate of a private security guard can serve as such confirmation.
