Step 1
Almost everyone is accepted into the French Foreign Legion. In practice, because there are still exceptions:
• age from 17 to 40 years
• male gender
Nationality and skin color do not matter, and the conformity of the level of physical fitness, health and psyche to the requirements of the Legion can only be judged by the results of the first tests. At the same time, there are absolutely no requirements for the level of knowledge of the French language.
Step 2
In order to enlist in the French Foreign Legion, you need to arrive at one of the recruitment points in France with an identity document. It is impossible to recruit outside of France, so you should choose the recruiting point that is easiest for you to get to. Today there are 17 recruiting centers in France, each of which accepts volunteers around the clock.
You can get to the recruiting point by choosing any of two options: on a tourist voucher to France or on an invitation visa of one of your French friends. At any recruiting point, a guard is posted, which allows applicants to enter the territory of the recruiting center as soon as they indicate their desire to join the ranks of the Foreign Legion. Having passed the gates, all candidates, without exception, will have to become the object of a comprehensive check for three long weeks.
Step 3
Candidates for Legionnaires undergo rather complex and multi-stage psychotechnical, medical tests, as well as tests of the level of physical fitness. In addition, while the volunteers are being tested and loaded with public benefit, the Foreign Legion's security service is checking the identity of the candidate against the Interpol databases.
Clarification of the details of the past life of the volunteers of interest to the security service also occurs during a personal conversation. In total, the verification of a candidate for compliance with all the requirements of the Foreign Legion takes about three weeks. At the end of this period, the lucky ones will sign a contract for five years, they will be shaved bald, and sent to the Training Center in new uniforms.
Step 4
Recruits of the French Foreign Legion are provided with everything necessary to successfully serve the interests of France, receive fairly substantial cash payments, can apply for a life pension and obtain French citizenship. However, the Legionnaire will be able to appreciate all these positive moments a little later, but for now the beginner will face the harsh everyday life of the soldier.
