The accountant, along with the head of the company, is a very important employee. It can be extremely difficult to find a real expert in your field, especially if you are looking to hire a freelance accountant.
Instructions
Step 1
As you begin your selection of an applicant for the role of an accountant in your firm, pay particular attention to the candidate's professional background. Naturally, a person with extensive experience in this particular position is preferable for the position of an accountant. Well, if he already had experience in accounting for a business identical to yours, then be sure to consider his candidacy.
Step 2
Try to find out from the applicant what experience he has with the tax office. A person who has already communicated with the tax services has probably understood some of the postulates of communication with their representatives and, on occasion, will not be at a loss to use the acquired skills. In addition, it may turn out that the candidate has some connections from past jobs.
Step 3
Be sure to ask the candidate how much time they can devote to your business. The question of marital status, the presence of young children or any health problems will not be superfluous. Most often, mothers who are on maternity leave or people with disabilities want to hire a freelance accountant. When deciding on the advisability of hiring such a person on the staff, think about what drives him: a real interest and desire to work, or difficult life circumstances that are likely to affect the quality of work.
Step 4
If you have decided on a candidate, then do not rush to overwhelm the newly-made employee with work. Offer him a couple of simple reports to start with and observe the quality and timing of the work. A good freelance accountant will not delay too much with their implementation, but the excessive speed of their delivery should alert you. Checking the papers handed over to you, ask the employee where he got this or that number from. An accountant with a well-structured document flow will not think about this issue for more than 10-15 minutes.
Step 5
An excellent accountant should be very attentive to his documents and systematize them periodically. Therefore, if the person you hired has never demanded that you confirm this or that figure with documents, then you should think about whether such an employee is needed at all.
