To obtain a residence permit in Russia, a foreign citizen needs to collect an impressive package of documents. Any mistake along the way will cause him to go through multiple instances again. To arrange everything you need to get the coveted document the first time, study in advance the list of documents that you will need.

Step 1
A residence permit in the Russian Federation is issued to foreign citizens and stateless persons who have lived in our country for at least a year and have reached the age of majority. Moreover, by the time the application is submitted, the validity of the passport and temporary residence permit must be valid for at least another six months. If a person has not yet turned 18, he can receive a residence permit on the basis of an application from his parents or legal representatives.
Step 2
First of all, you need to contact the territorial body of the FMS (Federal Migration Service). There you will be given an application form, which you must fill out yourself. Try to write legibly, avoid abbreviations, and answer the questionnaire as extensively as possible.
Step 3
In the FMS department, take a list of documents that are needed to obtain a residence permit. These include a passport (or other identity and citizenship document), four matte photographs measuring 350x450 mm, and a temporary registration document.
Step 4
In addition, you will need certificates confirming that for the next year you have a source of income (the salary must reach the subsistence level) and that you legally reside somewhere.
Step 5
To confirm your health status, take a certificate stating that you do not have HIV, do not suffer from drug addiction and are not a carrier of infectious and sexually transmitted diseases.
Step 6
If you are married, please attach your marriage certificate to your application. You will also need to provide birth certificates and passports of children and, if their age is from 14 to 18 years old, a notarized consent to live in Russia.
Step 7
Before going to the FMS, pay the state duty at the bank branch, include the receipt in the package of collected documents. If any of them is drawn up in a foreign language, make a notarized version in Russian.
Step 8
A residence permit in Russia is issued for five years. After the expiration of this period, the validity of the document, if necessary, is extended.
