A barista is a coffee storage and preparation specialist who also serves coffee drinks to customers in cafes, bars and restaurants. The name of this profession comes from the Italian word "barista", which translates as "bartender" or "person who works at the bar." But unlike other bartenders, who mainly deal with alcoholic beverages, the barista only works on making coffee.

Instructions

Step 1

A barista is a true master of the art of making coffee drinks, who knows everything about different types of coffee, knows how to determine their quality, and is also able to determine the degree of roasting of coffee beans by their aroma. In addition, the barista must have knowledge of the rules for storing coffee. Each type of coffee requires a whole set of storage conditions in order to maintain a high-quality taste and aroma throughout the entire shelf life.

Step 2

What does a barista do? The main occupation of a person in this profession is the preparation of espresso coffee. You should not think that the quality of espresso depends entirely on the class of the coffee machine: the taste of the drink is strongly influenced by the barista's skills and his ability to adjust the equipment, check the quality of coffee grinding and monitor the correct formation of the coffee pill - pressed ground coffee from which the drink is made.

Step 3

A professional barista knows how to prepare at least 40 types of coffee (latte, cappuccino, conpanna, mocha, macchiato, ristretto, tore, romano and others). Thus, he knows many recipes for preparing coffee drinks and is fluent in each one. But making a coffee drink is only half the job; it also needs to be served correctly. This is considered a separate area of expertise that a barista should have: what kind of utensils are used to serve a particular type of coffee and how to correctly use the ingredients to decorate a drink prepared according to a specific recipe.

Step 4

The profession of a barista involves more than just the ability to make coffee with an espresso machine and properly serve drinks to customers. Real experts in this field know all the intricacies of latte art - a technique of drawing on coffee foam, which allows you to turn drinks into real works of art. According to professional masters, with the help of some latte art techniques, you can even noticeably change the taste of coffee and regulate the severity of its aroma.

Step 5

A barista is more than just a bartender who specializes in coffee drinks. This profession belongs to the category of creative, and only a person with a developed artistic taste can really master it. There are even world-class competitions where masters from all countries can demonstrate their skills. At such championships, not only the taste, but also the style of the coffee drink, as well as the technique of work and the ability of the competitor to present himself and his drink are assessed.
