In December, the tax payment deadline for the last year will expire in Russia. Those who did not manage to do this before December 3 will join the ranks of debtors. The country's retirees have benefits that they should be aware of.
Property tax
Pensioners in Russia have tax benefits provided by legislation. Unfortunately, there are citizens who do not know about them. All retirees who have applied for a pension for any reason are exempt from property tax. It should be noted that only the owner of his own property receives the benefit. That is, it should be in his personal property.
This benefit is provided to all retirees, both unemployed and those who are still working. There are reservations: some citizens of pre-retirement age can take advantage of the privilege (part 1 of article 407 of the Tax Code of the Russian Federation). The law contains a list of these exceptions. A pensioner can be exempted from paying property tax for only one object at his own discretion. For example, a citizen has two apartments. He himself can choose for which of them it is more convenient not to pay. If he has a house and an apartment, then he can be exempted from paying tax for both objects.
Land tax
If a pensioner owns a land plot in the amount of 6 acres, then he is also exempt from paying tax for it (Article 391 of the Tax Code of the Russian Federation). But, owning a plot that is more than the specified acres, for example 10, obliges him to pay tax for 4 extra acres. Having several plots of 6 acres each, a pensioner does not pay land tax only for one of them. The rest will have to be paid.
It should be noted that benefits for land and real estate can be expanded at the regional level.
Transport tax
In addition to land tax and property tax, there is a benefit for a pensioner that exempts him from transport tax. But it is not provided in all regions of the country. To find out about its existence, you should contact directly the Tax Office of the region where the owner of the vehicle lives.
How you can take advantage of the benefits
In order for a pensioner to be able to take advantage of the benefits, he must first of all contact the Federal Tax Service at the place of residence. There he is obliged to write an application and submit the relevant documents, which will have to confirm that he really has the right to receive these benefits. If for some reason it is difficult to do it yourself, then he can be helped at the MFC, where they will provide this service.
In the event that a pensioner at a certain time did not apply for benefits and did not declare a refusal to receive them, they should still be provided to him on the basis of information available to the Federal Tax Service. But one should not fully hope for this and it is better to personally meet with employees of the Tax Service.
