You can lose your identity document in various ways - due to theft, damage, or simply by verifying it. This creates various problems for a person: without a passport, you cannot buy a plane ticket, get any certificate from a government institution, and pay for large purchases with a credit card. How to recover a lost identity card as quickly as possible?
Necessary
- - 4 passport-size photographs;
- - a certificate from the police about the theft of the document (in case of theft of the passport);
- - money sufficient to pay the state duty for the renewal of the passport.
Instructions
Step 1
If your passport has been stolen, obtain a document from the police station on duty, confirming the theft of your identity card.
A passport may become invalid not only due to loss or theft, but also if it contains unintended marks. Only stamps on registration, marriage, divorce, information about children, military service, blood type and TIN are allowed. For example, if at the border with a foreign country you have been stamped in your civil passport, you will need to replace it following the procedure described below.
Step 2
Pay the fee for issuing a new passport. In 2011, it is 500 rubles. The receipt for payment can be downloaded from the FMS website or taken from a Sberbank branch. You can pay the amount through any bank.
Step 3
Find the FMS branch in your place of residence. This can be done through the website of the FMS in your region - there is a list of addresses and phone numbers of branches, as well as the hours of work of specialists.
Step 4
Come to the office of the migration service in person with the necessary documents - a certificate from the police, photographs and a receipt confirming the payment of the duty. Receive from the employee and fill out an application about the reason for the lack of a passport (loss, theft, damage, and so on), and also sign a statement stating that you are asking for a new passport.
Step 5
After registering your documents, receive a temporary photo ID. This document will replace your passport at the time of making a new one.
Step 6
Wait until a new passport is issued. This can take up to two months. If you lost your passport, and someone found it and took it to the police, you will receive a notification from the FMS and you will be able to get your old document back.
Step 7
When a new identity card is ready, receive it personally from the FMS.
If you applied for the loss of your passport, and then found it, be sure to report this to the FMS. After registering a statement about the loss of a document, it is entered into the database of invalid passports. If you want to show this passport anywhere, you may have problems with law enforcement.
