At the moment, you can issue two types of passports: old and new, the so-called biometric. The future owner of such a document can decide which passport is better for him. To do this, he needs to know all the features of old and new passports.

Step 1
Old and new passports differ in several ways. First of all, it is the presence of a microchip in new passports. It is located on the front page of a biometric passport and contains information about its owner: his name, surname, date of birth and some other information. In principle, all the necessary information about a person can be put into a microchip: blood group, fingerprints, scanning of the retina. So far, such data from travelers is not required, but who knows what laws will be adopted in the near future. In this case, the owner of the biometric passport will not have to change the document, they will simply add the missing information about the identity of each owner.
Step 2
The page with the microchip in the passport of the new sample is completely made of plastic so as not to damage the circuits. Information on such a page is applied using a laser, including a photograph and a sample signature of the owner. Data from the microchip is read as from any bank card. Such passports are most common in the countries of Western Europe, the USA, Japan, they have such a technology that has become widespread, while in Russia it is gradually coming into use. Naturally, there is no microchip in a regular old-style passport. The title page contains information about the person, his name and surname, year of birth, passport validity.
Step 3
The validity periods of these passports also vary. With a new passport, you can travel for 10 years, while a regular passport will be valid for only 5 years, after which it will need to be replaced. However, this advantage in timing fades away if you have to travel to different countries often enough, because the number of pages in both passports is the same. Consequently, when there is no more room on the pages to affix visas and make customs marks, the passport will have to be replaced.
Step 4
The difference will affect the size of the state duty, and the timing of issuing these two types of passports. The state duty on a biometric is almost twice as high as on a regular passport. At the same time, passports are absolutely identical in terms of their legality: so far no one has canceled the old-style foreign passport, and it is unlikely that such an order will come into force in the coming years. In obtaining visas to the owners of old-style passports, there can also be no obstacle on the part of other states. In addition, a regular passport can be obtained in an accelerated mode, while the term for issuing a biometric passport will be at least 30 days.
Step 5
A biometric passport can contain data for only one person - its owner. This means that it will not work to enter a child into such a passport. Therefore, parents who own biometric passports will need to issue separate passports for each of their children, even if they are an infant. In a few years, such a passport will have to be changed, since the grown up baby will no longer be identified by the photo, because you will not be able to prove to the customs service that this is your child, which threatens with unnecessary trouble. All this incurs unnecessary costs. Whereas when receiving an ordinary passport, the data of all children is entered into it, the child does not need to have any document other than a birth certificate.
