A patent is a special document that certifies the ownership of an invention, model or industrial design. The term of the patent varies from 10 to 25 years. It is possible to patent a product both within the state and to obtain an international patent.
Instructions
Step 1
Submit your patent application. The patent is issued by a state body - the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent). The procedure for patenting a product is lengthy and quite expensive, therefore, it is necessary to patent a product only when there is confidence in the need for this and in the future return of the invested funds.
Step 2
Initially, you should do a patent search to ensure that no such invention has been granted a patent before. If a similar invention is registered, you will have to prove that yours is better, more economical, etc.
Step 3
Carry out patent search both through special sites of international patent organizations, and through a search in an ordinary regional library in the classifier of international patents.
Step 4
However, an independent search is a very long and troublesome business. In addition, there is a great risk of making mistakes, so it is better to hire a patent attorney - it is more reliable.
Step 5
When filing an application with Rospatent, it is necessary to prepare a package of documents with a description of the subject of the patent, technical characteristics, drawings. Pay the state duty in the established amount for the application and for the examination of the patent and - be patient.
Step 6
The terms for consideration of patents are quite long: up to 2 months for its formal consideration, and if a patent has passed this stage, a detailed examination will take place, which lasts up to 1 year, after which you will be issued a long-awaited patent.
