More and more often, young specialists who have no experience of interacting with the team from the position of a superior are appointed to managerial positions. They have to gain this experience in real life, and often they make typical mistakes, which it is quite possible to avoid.
Before accepting a managerial position, try to weigh the pros and cons of this decision. Answer the questions:
- What is my place in the company?
- What are my inner desires?
- How high do I want to climb the career ladder?
- Will a promotion help me unleash my inner potential?
So, you answered the questions, decided to become a leader - what next? What to do and what not to do, so as not to make a mess in your new position?
1. You should not make a revolution in the order established in the team, because abrupt changes will cause strong rejection, and instead of the creative process, a confrontation between the team and the leader may begin. If something does not suit you in the organization of work or in personnel policy, make the changes imperceptible, gradual, step-by-step.
Completely opposite actions will be required with outright loafers who believe that no one is watching their work. A good shake-up will make them work hard or quit, which isn't always a bad thing for an organization.
2. Do not seek advice and advice from senior colleagues or superiors too often, especially on non-essential matters. Make decisions on your own - you are the leader. At the same time, it is not superfluous to heed the advice of experienced employees, even if they are of a lower rank. In any team there are people who are rooting for the cause and will always give constructive advice. Find these people, just don't turn them into favorites - others won't like it. The leader should be the same for everyone.
3. Excessive zeal and workaholism is not an indicator of a good leader, because there should be a golden mean in everything. Efficiency, objectivity, rationality, calmness - this is what his boss expects from the average manager.
4. Do not try to adapt to the team and please everyone and everyone, because it is simply impossible. If you have made a decision, follow it. But this does not mean that decisions cannot be changed. It's just that this should not happen under pressure from a part of the team, but according to your decision. Follow the rule: determine what the goal is and how it can be achieved, this will help to soberly assess the situation
5. Once again about the favorites. Often, a young leader tries to bring the informal leader of the team closer to him in order to secure support through him if something happens. Intrigues can begin here, people will begin to inform each other, which will lead to the receipt of distorted information. Remember that the team may well have developed persistent hostile relationships that may not always reflect reality. Therefore, keep a normal distance with everyone and just organize the work correctly, then the result will not be long in coming.
