All citizens of the country receive a passport of the Russian Federation upon reaching the age of 14 years. The main document is valid until a certain age, on the threshold of which physiognomic changes in appearance occur. Replacing a document at a certain age is considered planned and mandatory. In addition, the passport can be replaced under certain circumstances - its loss or theft, change of gender or surname. The procedure for a planned replacement is somewhat different from an urgent one.

How old is the passport to be replaced

In contrast to the world practice of issuing the main document at the age of 16, in Russia, teenagers who have turned 14 are required to obtain a passport. It is not indefinite, and must be replaced at 20 and 45 years. This need is explained by age-related changes in a person's appearance:

  • the shape of the eyebrows, their color and width,
  • under the influence of external factors, the skin color changes,
  • the oval of the face changes shape after 45 years,
  • age features are reflected in facial features - the lines of the nose and lips.

Since a person is identified primarily by appearance, and in the case of a passport, by facial features, a photograph is one of the important elements of a document. The requirement to change your passport at the onset of a certain age is a rule that must be followed.

Throughout his life, according to the age limit for a passport, a citizen of the Russian Federation will have three such documents. Issued at 14 years old will be valid for up to 20 years, the next one - for 25 years, up to 45 years, and the last passport will already be unlimited.

The procedure for replacing the passport of the Russian Federation by age restrictions

There is a certain order - how long it is necessary to do this, what package of documents to prepare and where to go. Every person is obliged to know all these rules and requirements.

You need to change your passport a maximum of 30 days after the onset of 20 and 45 years. To do this, you can personally visit the nearest FMS branch or fill out an application on the State Services portal. The order in both cases will be approximately the same:

  • its registration, verification and approval,
  • payment of the state duty in the established amount,
  • submission of a package of documents and photographs to the GUVM of the Ministry of Internal Affairs
  • obtaining a new passport.

A citizen is obliged personally to provide originals of documents, photographs to the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but you can fill out an application online, on the State Services portal. If this method is chosen to replace the passport by age, then you must appear at the migration service within 30 days after receiving the invitation in electronic form. As a rule, it comes to the citizen's e-mail three days after the application is submitted.
