Choosing a profession is a challenge as exciting as it is difficult. Some people spend their entire lives looking for their true calling. Even if it seems to you that doing what you like and getting paid for it is an unattainable dream, you should think about it, is it really so? Yes, if you don't know how to sing, then you shouldn't be a rock star, but maybe you should take a closer look at the profession of a music columnist or DJ on rock radio? If you understand what you really like to do, it will be much easier to choose a profession for yourself.

It is necessary

  • Paper and pen
  • Access to the Internet
  • Career guidance tests

Instructions

Step 1

Ask yourself the following questions: What activity would you be doing even if you were not paid to do it? What do you like to do in your free time? Are there things that you read with pleasure and are ready to talk until nightfall? Write down your answers. This will help you organize your thoughts a little.

Step 2

Talk to your family, friends, and teachers about the areas in which they think you show certain talents. Ask each of them to name three of your talents. Write down all the answers and mark the most popular ones.

Step 3

Take some career counseling tests. Perhaps they will give you some new ideas.

Step 4

Think about what is truly valuable to you and what is secondary. If you want to be, first of all, a good family man, then perhaps you should not choose a profession associated with frequent business trips. If you want more independence and independence, then a profession associated with strict internal corporate rules and a clear hierarchy, such as, for example, the profession of a military pilot, will not suit you. Think about the lifestyle you want to live. If you dream of leaving work exactly on schedule and spending the weekend at your leisure, then the work of an ambulance doctor with its irregular shifts is not for you. But dentists rarely have rush jobs.

Step 5

Compare all the answers and find those professions that you are really interested in and for which you have talent. Think big. If you like fitness, then you can become not only a fitness trainer, but also a fitness TV star, fitness model, fitness journalist. If you have some kind of handicraft hobby, then it may be worth getting a professional education related to it and creating your own business. Make a list of professions that are attractive to you.

Step 6

Search the Internet for articles related to the perspectives of your chosen professions. Some of them will always be in demand, in any economic downturn. Others will bring in more income, but are also associated with more risk. Some will require many years of training and will begin to pay dividends after many years. Are you ready for this? Remember that you have to find some balance between what you are interested in doing and what will bring you income. However, this advice is not perfect. Many experts in the field of self-realization argue that a truly beloved business will always bring you enough financial profit to live a happy life.

Step 7

Search the Internet for blogs and blogs of people who have made a career in your chosen fields of activity. Read what tasks they have to solve every day, what difficulties they face. Is this how you envisioned this work? Try taking a field trip or even an internship at a firm that does something that interests you. Ask friends and family if they know someone who works in an area that is attractive to you. Ask to arrange a meeting with him and ask questions about his profession. Ask where would you like to start your career.

Step 8

Register on job search sites and see what requirements headhunters have for people in your chosen profession, what industry salaries are offered on average, what skills are an advantage when applying for a job in your chosen field.

Step 9

Try to find an opportunity to look at your chosen profession from the inside. If you are attracted by the work of a designer, get a courier in an advertising agency for the summer. If you want to be a lawyer, work as an assistant secretary in a law firm. If you want to be a veterinarian, volunteer at a veterinary clinic.

Step 10

After completing all the research, cross from the list those professions that, upon closer examination, turned out to be not so attractive, do not meet your requirements for self-realization, ethical standards, lifestyle, and will not be able to meet your financial needs. Remember that your task was just to reduce this list to one thing to which you, no doubt, would like to devote part of your life.
