It happens that a couple needs to legalize their relationship abroad. To do this, you need to contact the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Russian Federation and formalize the marriage there.
Citizens of the Russian Federation have the right to marry both on the territory of Russia at the registry office and at the Russian Embassy abroad. To do this, first of all, you should make an appointment with the Consular Section. To apply for registration, a couple must bring the following documents:
- internal passports of citizens of the Russian Federation (and copies, including pages on marital status), - foreign passports (and copies), - certificates of divorce and their copies (if one of the future spouses was previously married), - application for marriage.
If the future spouses (or one of them) have not previously been married, it is better to get a certificate in advance from the registry office (or the Consulate) confirming this.
After checking all the documents, the employee of the Consular Section will issue a receipt for payment of the state fee.
When the receipt is paid and the documents are handed over, the date and time of the marriage is set. According to the law of the Russian Federation, a marriage can be formalized no earlier than a month after the application is submitted.
It should be remembered that solemn registration is usually not performed at the Consulates. Therefore, if you want to arrange a beautiful holiday, plan to hold it after the painting.
