Paradoxical as it may seem, although Russian animation is rightfully considered one of the best in the world, there are only a few multipliers in the country. At the same time, there are always a lot of people who want to get this exciting creative profession.
The initial stage of training a multiplier
Young people who dream of becoming an animator most likely imagine themselves as animation directors in the future. However, this field of activity also presupposes another, interesting, but painstaking work on the creation of numerous images that make up the cartoon, in the technical workshops of the film studio.
Only one educational institution of the Russian Federation trains specialists for work in workshops. This is the Moscow Professional Art Lyceum of Animated Cinematography No. 333. Admission to it is carried out on the basis of complete secondary education. However, it is far from easy to enter here. To begin with, the applicant must submit at least 10 creative works to the competition, and then pass exams in drawing, storyboarding and Russian. For two years of study, students study both classical art disciplines (academic drawing, painting, etc.), and subjects directly related to the process of creating animation: for example, phasing and drawing. Upon graduation from the Lyceum, the graduates are awarded the qualification "animator".
In addition to this unique educational institution, there are many professional lyceums, where training in the specialty "designer with knowledge of computer graphics and animation" takes place. You can also enter there after the end of 11 classes, having successfully passed exams in drawing, painting and the Russian language. Of course, they do not teach classical animation here, but after all, most modern studios have not been working on the old technology for a long time. It is much more expensive than a computer one, and there are few real specialists in it. So the knowledge of modern computer technologies used to create animation is even more relevant.
The path to the heights of the profession
Those who want to get closer to the heights of the profession, creating their own animated films, can continue their education in higher educational institutions. The base university where animators are trained is the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography. True, it is very difficult to enter there. The competition is huge, and the selection is very strict. Applicants entering the specialty "cartoon artist" or "computer graphics and animation artist" must first submit work for participation in the preliminary creative competition. After successfully passing it, they will have to pass exams in painting, drawing, composition, history, Russian language and literature.
The further fate of an artist-animator depends solely on his talent and hard work. If he manages to create really bright, interesting, original animated films for children and adults, he will be welcome at any film studio.
