However, for such an achievement, the citizen will not be entered into the Guinness Book of Records, but a court order on confiscation and a fine of many thousands.
Chinese American Yi Gin Chen has violated the bee management regulations in the US capital. In 2010, the City Health Council tightened them up due to the local enthusiasm for breeding non-aggressive Apis Mellifera bees. Beekeepers in New York are now required to register with the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and adhere to established guidelines for keeping these insects. The rules contain, for example, such points as preventing people from being near while insects are outside the hives. It is rather difficult to achieve this in a multi-apartment residential building. In addition, the beekeeper is obliged to enter a special metric in the city branch of the Association of Beekeepers, which reflects all quantitative changes in the bee families belonging to him.
The Queens District Police Department has received a complaint from the neighbors of an enthusiastic beekeeper whose main occupation is running his own restaurant. The neighbors were annoyed and even frightened by the continuous buzzing in the neighboring dwelling. After consideration of the complaint, on the night of August 22, specialists from the local Beekeepers Association arrived to the 58-year-old American along with the police. Their task was to evacuate 45 hives from the city dwelling, which were located in the apartment, corridor and yard of the house. In total, on a total area of only 37 square meters, almost three million bees were kept. And Yu Jin Chen started two years ago with the acquisition of just one hive. In addition to the order to get rid of the bees evacuated from the apartment, he now faces an impressive $ 90,000 fine.
