Instructions

Step 1

First, make sure you meet the requirements for an American work visa. You need to know English. In different cases, certificates may be required. Even if you do not need English in the process of work, you still need to go through an interview to obtain a visa, and not knowing the language can become a reason for refusal. You also need to have completed higher education in the field in which you are looking for work, at least a bachelor's degree. You must already have experience working in a relevant position in Russia.

Step 2

For work, a visa is requested in the form of H-1B, it gives the right to work, however, only with the employer who sent you the invitation. But the presence of this visa allows you to apply for a "Green Card", with which you can work anywhere. There is also an H-2B temporary work visa, which you can work with the employer who invited you, but you cannot apply for a Green Card. Even if your plans do not include immigration to the United States, it is still better to choose an H-1B visa and do a "Green Card" in order to feel freer and not depend on one employer.

Step 3

Now you need to find an employer in the United States. The easiest way to do this is for programmers, the demand for such specialists in America is quite high. But you can find work for people in almost any specialty. It is best to look for a search among companies that already have experience in inviting people from other countries to work, since issuing an invitation is a complicated procedure. Many companies that have never encountered it, fearing this bureaucracy, will not even consider candidates from other countries.

Step 4

The employer must send you a package of documents for a visa. There will be a completed form ETA 9035 (Labor Condition Application (LCA) - this is the information about the place of work. Also, the employer must submit an approved copy of this form and another Form I-129 to USCIS (US Citizen and Immigration Services). This is a document in which he justifies the need to hire a foreign worker. When you receive this package, it will be placed in an envelope and sealed in a special way. Do not open it!

Step 5

Prepare a diploma, work book and certificates from previous jobs in your chosen field of activity. The certificates must indicate the salary, position and experience. Photocopy all documents, but take the originals with you to your interview as well. If there are any additional certificates, diplomas or certificates of completion of the courses, please bring them with you too.

Step 6

To apply for a visa, you will also need a passport and photographs of the established sample. If there are old foreign countries, take them with you too. Copies must be made from all pages of the Russian passport that contain information.

Step 7

If you are married, bring your marriage certificate as well. If there are children, then birth certificates of children. If you have real estate or valuable property in your possession, take the documents with you for all this too.

Step 8

It will be useful to bring a bank statement, which should have a certain amount of funds for the first time in the United States.
