In accordance with the Federal Law "On Education in the Russian Federation", students studying on a full-time budgetary basis in educational institutions are entitled to a scholarship. In 2017, the payment of funds to students will change, and now its size will take into account inflation and the cost of living.

Today in Russia there are about 900 higher educational institutions, in which almost 5 million students study.

Before passing the first session, freshmen are guaranteed the payment of a minimum scholarship, which is 1,484 rubles. If at the end of the first session there is at least one triple ("satisfactory" grade) or one retake, the student will be deprived of support from the social budget already in the next semester.

Students who actively participate in Olympiads, scientific publications, innovative developments, cultural, creative and sports life of the university, the creation of literary, painting and sculptural works, etc., can receive an increased scholarship. But in accordance with the Federal Law "On Education in the Russian Federation", only 1 out of 10 students from the total number of those applying for an increased cash payment will be able to count on an additional scholarship.

In addition to the payment of a study scholarship, some students will be able to receive a social scholarship. According to the law, orphans and children who grew up without parents, as well as children with disabilities or received a dose of radiation, can apply for it. The same category includes contract servicemen who have completed military service for at least 3 years. The amount of the social scholarship in 2017 is 2227 rubles.

The above students who are eligible for a social scholarship, with good academic performance and grades "4" and "5" during the first 2 years of study, are assigned an increased social scholarship in the amount of the minimum subsistence level in Russia, and this is about 10,000 rubles.

If a student takes academic leave or parental leave (up to 3 years old), then the legislation retains the right to receive a social scholarship.

According to Andrei Zarubin, director of the finance department of the Ministry of Education and Science, the size of the Russian scholarship fund in 2017 will grow. But it is worth remembering that the amount of scholarships paid by universities is set by themselves, but it cannot be lower than the minimum under the law - 1484 rubles.
