According to Russian law, days such as February 23, March 8, May 1 and 9 are non-working holidays. But if these holidays fell on a day off (Saturday and Sunday), then the labor legislation of the Russian Federation provides for the postponement of the holiday.
Rules for the transfer of holidays and weekends
According to article 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, if a public holiday coincides with a day off, then such a day off will be postponed to the next business day after the holiday. For example, if a holiday fell on Sunday, then the day off will be postponed to Monday, and the work week will start on Tuesday.
At the same time, the working day before the holiday is considered to be reduced by 1 hour, but is paid as a full one.
However, the Government of the Russian Federation, for the purpose of rational use of weekends and holidays by employees, often carries the days off to other holidays. For example, February 23 fell on Saturday, and the day off was postponed to Friday, May 10, so that Russians could have more rest on warm spring days.
International Women's Day, March 8, fell on Friday, so it was decided not to postpone it, as a result of which the Russians rested for 3 days.
Holidays transfer rules do not work with those who have a 6-day work week. For example, in February, with such a schedule, they rested on a working Saturday on the 23rd and on Sunday on the 24th, therefore, nothing will be postponed to May, so there will be fewer days off.
For Russians working on a regular schedule, the concept of a non-working holiday, one might say, does not exist. However, many good employers pay additional bonuses for work on public holidays to please shift workers.
