Journalism is one of the few professions in which you do not need to have a diploma in a specialty. There are different paths to becoming a good journalist, and only one of them involves obtaining a specialized education.

Instructions
Step 1
If your age allows, enroll in the "School of a Young Journalist" or in any other thematic circle. They are often organized by the editorial offices of city and district mass media, youth affairs departments of local administrations. Under the guidance of experienced journalists, young people from scratch publish their own newspapers, record audio and video clips, and create websites. This is a great way to grow into a good specialist, literally and figuratively. If you turn out to be a talented and promising student, you may be invited to work in the real, adult, media.
Step 2
Get into the Faculty of Journalism. During their studies, students receive not only the knowledge necessary in the profession, but also acquire useful contacts; they find it easier than people from the street to find part-time jobs and undergo practical training in editorial offices. Talented newcomers are hired by the media even before graduation.
Step 3
Write an interesting article and send it to your chosen editorial office. If the material turns out to be good, relevant, competent, unbroken, it will be accepted for publication. This practice is common both in magazines like Cosmopolitan and in factory circulations. After a successful start, develop in the profession: get to know the editor, suggest topics that you can cover, ask for personal assignments and create quality works.
Step 4
As a professional in a field far from journalism, be it pharmacy, dog breeding, woodcarving, etc., offer your services as an expert to publications. In the highly specialized and intended for a wide range of readers, the media constantly publish materials of doctors, lawyers, teachers, travelers … Perhaps the editorial staff has been looking for such a person for a long time. But even if not, your candidacy will be considered, because new useful articles are always needed. If you write well, the same editorial office will certainly accept works on other topics, and there it is not far before retraining as a real journalist.
