It is not necessary to have a specialized education to get a job in the media - work experience is more valuable in this area. If you have one or just want to get one, use all the options for finding a job in journalism to find the perfect job for you.
Instructions
Step 1
Create a resume and prepare a portfolio. In your resume, in addition to the standard personal data, tell us in detail about your work experience in the field of journalism. Write in which publications you worked (even freelance). Indicate what professional duties you performed at each place, for which heading or section in the publication you were responsible, what topic was your profile. Do not hesitate to name your professional achievements, not exaggerating, but not belittling your merits.
Step 2
The portfolio should contain examples of your journalistic work. If there are already a lot of them, do not put everything in a folder, choose the highest quality ones, try to give examples of materials in different genres. If you do not have work experience yet, just before going to the interview, write two or three journalistic texts in different genres for any informational reasons (fresh). This will allow the employer to see your level of vocabulary and information processing skills.
Step 3
If you already know which publication you would like to work for, go there, even if the editorial office has not announced any vacancies. You will be able to speak personally with the management and ask them to give you a test task. If the editor sees you as a good specialist, he is unlikely to refuse to cooperate. Perhaps you will be offered to work at least as a freelancer. If you want to work in radio or television, during the interview you will most likely be asked to do a test voice recording or demonstrate your work in the frame. Be prepared (both mentally and professionally) for such challenges when preparing for an interview.
Step 4
Search online for suitable jobs. Use the search on the relevant Internet portals: select the areas of media, publishing, PR, indicate the desired level of salary and mode of work. If you are interested in any offer, send your resume to the employer.
Step 5
You can find about the same job advertisements in specialized newspapers. In this case, you can contact the future bosses either by e-mail or by phone.
