What is the Russian National Guard?
On April 5, 2016, the President of Russia announced the creation of a qualitatively new structure in the Armed Forces. The National Guard will become such a structure. The National Guard will include the most elite units of the Armed Forces: OMON, the Zubr special purpose unit, the Hawk Aviation Unit, and the Lynx Rapid Response Group.
In addition to special forces, ordinary soldiers will also be recruited into the National Guard. The main functions of the National Guard will be the fight against terrorist organizations, the protection of law and order and the maintenance of peace in our state. The number of the National Guard will be about 300 thousand people.
Requirements for candidates for the National Guard
The National Guard will only accept servicemen who have served in the border troops or the Internal Troops. There is also an age limit. The candidate must be no older than 31 years old. Also, the candidate must be a citizen of Russia and have a permanent place of residence. Having a complete family for the applicant will be a great advantage. Also, a candidate for the Russian National Guard must have excellent health and have good physical fitness.
How to get to serve in the Russian National Guard?
Service in the National Guard will be entirely on a contract basis. The bulk of the composition will be transferred by internal orders. But military commissariats will soon start accepting petitions for service in the ranks of the National Guard from citizens. At its core, the process is similar to the placement of a contract service in a regular unit, but with additional requirements.
