Before you start writing, consider the style you will use. There are three generally accepted standards for resume styles: chronological, functional, and mixed.

If you have little or no cooking experience, choose a functional style. Place the main emphasis on your current culinary knowledge, rather than on the experience you have gained. Focus your writing on the presentation of your skills and educational level.

If you have a lot of experience behind you, then give preference to the chronological style. It is not the recipes in which you are competent to show, but the contribution that you have made as a chef. This style involves describing your work experience in chronological order. Talking about the experience gained in past jobs, do not forget to mention your training as trainees, if any, what ideas and new things you brought into production, what recipes were adopted by you, what were you responsible for, what you instructed, and what was your initiative to improve the quality of public catering. List any awards and accolades from past employment. In general, try to present yourself in the most favorable light, but only include only relevant information in the story.

Step 4

A mixed resume style is considered the most successful. It is both chronological and functional at the same time, highlighting important details regarding your qualifications as a chef. Such a resume is easier and more convenient to read. Avoid unnecessary verbose qualifications. The emphasis on your achievements, of course, must be done, but keep in mind that few people will believe that the whole restaurant or canteen was supported by you alone.

Step 5

Make your resume as correct as possible, because it will give the first impression of you as a person and a specialist. Try to competently “sell” your experience and your knowledge. If you have not left your old job and are just going to change it, then do not indicate the contacts of your superiors for good recommendations. If a potential employer calls your place of work, then in the end you may either lose your old job or not find a new one, because your current bosses, having learned that you are preparing to leave them, are unlikely to want to tell something good about you.
