Step 1

If you provide a foreigner with housing (or a place of registration for migration registration), you must register him within three days of arrival. To do this, you need to apply to the territorial body of the Federal Migration Service, serving employers of foreigners, with the passport of the future employee (if there is no Russian version in it, a notarized translation of the document into Russian will be required) and his migration card. The validity of the passport must be at least 6 months.

The law allows the employer to both take the registration of a work permit for a foreigner for himself, and entrust it to the employee himself, if, of course, he is able to do this (for migrants applying for job vacancies, this may turn out to be a problem due to poor knowledge of the Russian language). It is necessary to apply to the territorial body of the FMS, which registered the foreigner with his passport, a notarized translation if necessary, a receipt for payment of the state duty, a photograph of the applicant and a completed and signed application of the established form. The application form and details for paying the state duty can be obtained from the FMS department or found on the Internet.

Step 3

The work permit is done within 10 days. After it is ready, you have the right to formalize an employment relationship with a foreign applicant. However, please note that if this document is valid for more than 90 days (usually issued for a year), it must undergo a medical examination within a month and bring the corresponding certificate to the FMS. The list of institutions that he should visit, and their addresses are publicly available in the departments of the FMS. It is in your interest to make sure that the foreigner goes through this procedure in due time. Otherwise, his permission will be canceled, and the employee will become illegal overnight with all the ensuing legal consequences for you and him.

Step 4

After concluding an employment contract with a foreigner, you are also required to notify the FMS, the Employment Center and the tax office of his hiring. You can get notification forms with tear-off coupons from these organizations. It is also possible to notify the FMS about hiring a foreigner by mail.
