One of the main people on any dance floor, disco or nightclub is a disc jockey or DJ. It is a mistake to think that his job is to simply rearrange music tracks; in fact, being a good DJ is not an easy task.

Instructions

Step 1

To begin with, it is worth understanding that the work of a disc jockey on the radio is fundamentally different from the work of a nightclub DJ. The duties of a radio DJ include the selection of music corresponding to the theme of the radio station, playing it on the air, talking with radio listeners, and monologues in between tracks.

Step 2

As for the club disc jockey, his job is much more complicated. It is on him that the reputation and attractiveness of the establishment, the time spent in the club by the visitors, and even their mood depend. To accomplish this task, it is not enough to be well versed in musical styles and directions and be able to work with professional equipment. You also need to be able to create smooth transitions from one composition to another, create a certain mood, feel the rhythm.

Step 3

One of the main tasks of a good disc jockey is the competent mixing of music tracks. Mixing in this case means a harmonious transition from one composition to another, without pauses, abrupt changes in the volume or tonality of the music. From a technical point of view, it looks like this: while one song is being played, the DJ uses the second playback device to select the next melody, adjusting its tempo to the current track. When the first song comes to an end, the DJ starts the previously prepared track so that for some time they sounded in the same rhythm. The DJ then gradually lowers the volume of the first melody to zero, thus giving the impression that the music did not end at all, but only slightly changed.

Step 4

In addition, DJs are engaged in the creation of remixes - musical compositions to which new sound has been added, a rhythm has been applied, sound effects have been inserted. As a result, the usual melodies acquire a new sound, which allows them to be used as dance club music. Another word from the dictionary of DJs - "re-edit", unlike a remix, is a music track in which the order is deliberately changed, parts are rearranged.

Step 5

Thus, the work of a DJ presupposes a musical education, an ideal sense of rhythm and tempo, an understanding of the format of dance music. You also need skills in working with professional sound equipment and, of course, the equipment itself. Beginner DJs often play in clubs for free, earning a name and reputation for themselves, and they do not start receiving royalties right away.
