Step 1
Get a linguistic education. Most employers pay attention to the availability of a diploma. In addition to a diploma and knowledge of the language, attending lectures on linguistics, you will get exactly translation skills, learn how to correctly adapt the Russian text to the original. In addition, you will learn a foreign and Russian language, because the presence of a diploma does not guarantee the availability of knowledge.

Register on various translation sites, visit various forums on the Internet, communicate with experienced translators: they can help you in the early stages of your career with advice and, perhaps, even help you find your first orders.
Step 3
Ask yourself a question: are you going to translate orally or only in writing? If you want to get into interpretation, start attending public speaking courses. There you will learn how to quickly react to a changing situation and find the right words at the right time. Simultaneous interpreters are highly valued in the labor market, but this profession is very difficult. Therefore, it is better to start with written translation.
Step 4
Select the field in which you would like to translate (economics, finance, law, technical text). For a successful translation, in addition to knowledge of the language, it is necessary to understand the subject area.
Step 5
Even during your studies, try to get a job in a translation agency, for a start freelance, offer yourself as a trainee.
Step 6
Make a resume in both Russian and foreign languages. Indicate areas of your specialization, coordinates. Check your resume text for grammatical errors.
Step 7
Text translation orders can be received from translation agencies or directly from the client. The latter is possible after gaining experience and reputation in the translation field. Therefore, focus on a translation agency. Be prepared to do a trial translation. Before translating, study the customer: requirements, nuances of terminology.

While working in a translation agency, build a client base for yourself from more prestigious clients.
Step 9
After gaining work experience, you can: try to go to a managerial job (become the head of a translation agency); deal with translations for customers from your client base directly, without intermediaries; to improve experience in translations in one specialization, thereby improving their qualifications in the subject area; start translating selectively, working only on more prestigious orders.
