In order to understand what the new graduate of the "sociology" direction will do, it is worth considering the name of the profession better. Society, as you know, is a synonym for the word "society", and the second component of the name comes from the ancient Greek "logos", which means "science." From all of the above, we can conclude that sociology is the science of society and everything connected with it. This science studies the issues and laws of the functioning of society and its systems, its members and their interaction, the relationship between various social institutions.

I must say that sociological science is quite broad and is subdivided into many areas of work associated with various spheres of life and society. For example, there is a sociology of religion, family, medicine, youth, labor, law, education, gender sociology, and many others. That is, in fact, a sociologist studies everything that surrounds a modern person, delving into what this very person sometimes does not pay significant attention to.

If we talk about the methods by which a sociologist studies the development and life of society, then this is mainly a mathematical apparatus. With the help of various surveys of the population, the sociologist compiles a picture for himself, which at the moment society corresponds. How can this picture be compiled so that it is understandable to all colleagues of the sociologist? Here we need exact numbers, with the help of which everything becomes objectively clear.

However, data can be obtained not only through questionnaires - the most common method of sociological surveys. Focus groups are also conducted, consisting in more detailed and in-depth interviewing of the target audience of interest to the sociologist, from which several people are selected and with their participation a discussion of a particular problem is carried out.

The task of a professional sociologist is by no means only the collection and processing of personal data obtained in the course of surveys. By processing this data, he must systematically analyze all components of the result obtained in order to identify negative trends and phenomena. Next, you need to think about how to eradicate these negative phenomena, or at least weaken their intensity. The product of such reflections should ultimately become a plan designed to improve the life of society as a whole and its individual representatives.
