Parasitism - in the days of the Soviet Union, this was understood as a parasitic existence at the expense of society. The legislation contained an article according to which a person could even be imprisoned. Nowadays there is no such article, but the majority of the able-bodied population of the country continues to go to work. What drives them?
Earnings
Material wealth is one of the main motives that motivate people to look for work. Money allows a person to satisfy his most varied needs.
Self-realization
Quite often a person realizes himself in work, i.e. satisfies his need for creativity through vigorous activity. The desire to reveal oneself, to show the strongest sides of one's personality in work is a very powerful incentive. This motivation is especially pronounced among people of creative professions: actors, writers, artists, etc.
Prestige
Some people choose for themselves such professions that are considered the most prestigious. Thus, they want to declare themselves to the world, increase their social status, acquire a sense of their own significance. They often also enjoy feeling superior to other people.
Communication
According to some people, going to work is worth it at least to be able to communicate with colleagues. So they get rid of the feeling of loneliness, replacing it with the natural satisfaction of communicating with people who share their interests.
The illusion of activity
Not everyone has a desire to work. But in order not to be considered a lazy person, a person sometimes creates the appearance that he is working. For example, he gets a job at some place, but doesn't really do anything there.
Many young people dream of a job where they are required not to have constant stress, but only to be able to create the illusion of being busy. True, over time, they tend to become disillusioned with the chosen strategy: they simply get bored. It's boring to be a person who doesn't represent anything sensible.
So, monetary wealth, self-realization, prestige, communication and the desire to create the illusion of employment - these are the main motives that encourage people to work.
