Step 1
Check if your rights obtained in another country comply with international norms. The text in them must be duplicated in English. If the document is completely drawn up in another language, order a translation of the text into Russian and officially certify it. If possible, translate documents in Russia - it will cost less than the services of consulates and translators abroad.

Use a foreign license in Russia if you have come to the country for a short period, for example, on a tourist trip. This applies to foreign citizens and stateless persons, as well as Russians with passports who do not have a Russian residence permit and are registered at the consulate as permanently residing abroad.

For a long-term stay in the country, get a Russian driver's license. You will have to use them after two months have passed after receiving a residence permit in the Russian Federation or after registration at the place of residence for Russian citizens. To exchange rights, contact the traffic police department at your place of residence. Take with you your passport, the driver's license itself, as well as its notarized translation into Russian. Write an application for the exchange of rights for Russian. Be prepared for the fact that the registration of new documents can take a long time, because the traffic police has the right to send a request for their authenticity to the country of issue of the driver's license.
