A seminar is a common way of teaching in various fields of knowledge. If you are going to host this event and you do not know how, here are a few tips.

Instructions

Step 1

Plan the workshop so that the session combines theory and practice, exercises. The ratio of these two components will depend on the specifics of the material you are presenting. In some cases, the lack of practice and exercise can be compensated for by active two-way communication, exchange of experience. Choose the appropriate form of the event: club seminar; webinar; training; presentation; Master Class.

Step 2

Check if you have everything you need for the event. At a minimum, you will need chairs, tables, bottled water, sheets, pens. If you plan to host a webinar, you need to install Skype, TrueConf or ooVoo on your computer. For a club seminar, which is usually held over a cup of tea, check to see if you have the necessary food. In addition, additional equipment may be required on a case-by-case basis. For example, speaking in front of a large audience is difficult without a lectern and a microphone.

Step 3

Introduce yourself at the beginning of the workshop. Give not only your name and surname, but also your regalia, and if you represent a company, your position. When there are up to ten people attending the event, ask those present to introduce themselves to create a warmer atmosphere. If the seminar is intended for a wider audience, unfortunately, there is usually no opportunity to get to know each of them.

Step 4

Start by announcing the outline of the workshop to prepare the audience for what they are about to hear. If the detailed plan was known to the participants in advance, you can skip this point.

Step 5

Since the researchers observe that it is difficult to maintain focused attention of the audience for longer than 20-30 minutes, intersperse your monologue with tasks and exercises. This is better than dividing the seminar into two parts: theory and practice. Try to present information in the form of a living story, read from the sheet only as a last resort. Present the material in an interesting way: bring colorful analogies, resort to subtle humor, explain with visual examples. Use videos if necessary.

Step 6

Print the assignments for the workshop participants on separate sheets of paper and distribute to everyone. Come up with individual or group exercises, depending on the specifics of the subject you are teaching. Try to get everyone involved.

Step 7

At the end of the seminar, give each participant a certificate of completion of the training, leave your contact details and a plan for future seminars.
