A letter of recommendation plays an important role in a person's career. All letters of recommendation have a similar structure and consist of the same elements, which greatly simplifies the task of writing it.

Step 1
A letter of recommendation should begin like any other formal letter, indicating who it is addressed to. Write in the upper right corner your initials, address, as well as the details of the recipient of the letter, etc. The text of the letter must begin with a formal address, for example, "Dear Mikhail Sergeevich, …".
Step 2
Summarize how well you know the person professionally. Be sure to include your own qualifications, this is important. If the addressee of the letter knows that its author is the leader, the weight of the letter will be higher. For example, “I am glad to recommend Ivan Ivanovich for the position of the head of the sales department of your company. As Vice President, I was Ivan Ivanovich's immediate superior from 2009 to 2013 and I know him well as a responsible person."
Step 3
Do not overload the letter with general phrases, describe the specific results that the person has achieved as an employee. Be sure to provide comparative results of his work, so you will show the recipient of the letter why you recommend him. For example, “During the work of Ivan Ivanovich, the volume of our sales has grown by 20%. This is the best result in the last 10 years. He introduced new principles of working with our clients, which greatly simplified the work of the entire department."
Step 4
Do not exaggerate the candidate's abilities and do not put him on a pedestal, such a letter will look implausible. If a person has flaws, do not hide them, but you should not write about them explicitly either. For example, if a person finds it difficult to organize educational processes, write: "Ivan Ivanovich works hard to improve the qualifications of the managerial staff and improve the efficiency of the department …".
Step 5
A letter of recommendation should not be one or two paragraphs long. The recipient of the letter may get the impression that you do not know the person and cannot characterize him, or the candidate has not shown himself as a good employee. State all the key points, but do not overload the letter with clarifications. Try to write your recommendation on one A4 page.
Step 6
When completing the letter, be sure to confirm your recommendation. Invite the recipient of the letter to contact you on emerging issues, indicating in the letter your contacts. For example, “Based on these characteristics, I am sure that Ivan Ivanovich will become an excellent employee in your team. If you have any questions, please contact me at the specified contacts."
