Instructions

Step 1

If you've been slandered, don't get hysterical or panic. Calm down and think about the situation, because even in the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the right of citizens to protect honor and good name is enshrined. In the main document of the country, the definition of "slander" means the dissemination of defamatory information that does not correspond to reality. This may involve the actions or behavior of another person.

Step 2

However, you can refute such information at any time. This right is described in Article 151 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, as well as in Article 43 of the Law "On the Mass Media". To do this, you must draw up a written rebuttal, in which you indicate what information is not reliable. Also describe in the statement the person or print media that caused the libel.

Step 3

It is worth noting that in this situation, you do not have to provide any evidence.

Step 4

After submitting the application, the editorial office of the magazine or newspaper must publish a refutation within a month. So wait for an answer. In the event that the refutation was not published, find out the reasons for the refusal.

Step 5

If the editorial board of a newspaper or magazine refused to publish a refutation of this or that defamatory information, file a lawsuit. This can be done within a year after the appearance of inaccurate information. This period can be restored upon presentation of valid reasons.

Step 6

After a trial and a verdict in your favor, the editorial board is obliged to publish a retraction. Otherwise, this organization will have to pay a large fine, the amount of which reaches 200 minimum wages.

Step 7

In addition, you have the right to respond to defamation. This is stated in Article 46 of the Law "On Mass Media". You can exercise these rights at any time, even if there is no way to get a rebuttal.
