The working hours on holidays are determined by the labor legislation of the Russian Federation, however, in order to rationally use the days of rest, the government of the Russian Federation has the right, by its own orders, to postpone these days to other dates.

As a general rule, which is contained in Article 113 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, work on holidays is prohibited. The list of non-working holidays is fixed in Article 112 of this regulation. At the same time, there are certain features of the mode of operation on the eve of the indicated days of rest when they coincide with the days off. The government of the Russian Federation is empowered to transfer non-working holidays to other dates, which by its own act determines in advance the number of days of rest for each regular calendar year. This order is mandatory for all employers operating in the country, but there are some exceptions.

General rules for work on holidays

The duration of the working day that precedes the holiday must be reduced by one hour. In addition, there are cases of coincidence of holidays and weekends. In this case, the day off must be transferred to the working day immediately following the holiday. The exception to this rule is New Year's holidays and Christmas, since the government transfers the two days off that coincide with these holidays to other dates in the calendar year, which is directly established by the Labor Code of the Russian Federation.

Special rules for working hours on holidays

In addition to the general norms of labor legislation on working hours on holidays, there are special rules determined by the government of the Russian Federation. In order to optimize the use of rest days, this body annually adopts its own act, which establishes the transfer of days off to the next calendar year. In this case, the specified order must be accepted no later than a month before the beginning of the specified year.

The government is also given the right to postpone days off during any year, but this will require the adoption of an appropriate order two months before the expected date. At the same time, the listed rules must be followed by all employers, without exception, the possibility of attracting workers to work on holidays is strictly regulated by labor legislation. The exception is established only for emergency situations, urgent work, as well as continuously operating organizations. In most cases, in order to engage in labor activity on such days, you need to obtain consent, personally signed by the employee.
