Instructions

Step 1

For all reasons for changing a passport, including a divorce and a woman's return of her previous surname, Russian legislation sets the same period during which a citizen must apply to the passport office with an application and other necessary documents. This period is thirty calendar days, and it should be counted from the date of receipt of the divorce certificate, which indicates the woman's intention to change her surname.

Step 2

To replace a passport in case of divorce within a specified period, a citizen should contact the passport office, fill out an application in the prescribed form. The application must be accompanied by an old passport, two personal photographs, as well as documents confirming the existence of grounds for changing the passport (in case of divorce, a divorce certificate with a record of the change of surname).

Step 3

An application for a replacement passport after a divorce is considered within ten days in case of contacting the passport office located at the place of registration of the citizen. Subject to the submission of all documents and the correct completion of the application, a new passport is issued within the specified period. If the appeal was followed to the passport office located not at the place of official registration of the citizen, then the period for considering the application and issuing a new document increases to two months.

Step 4

If the indicated period for contacting the passport office is violated, then the citizen commits an administrative offense, since he is considered to be living without a passport. As a punishment for this violation, an administrative fine is established, the amount of which is determined in the range of 2-3 thousand rubles, and for residents of Moscow, St. Petersburg - in the range of 3-5 thousand rubles. Even with the payment of a fine in the named amounts, the obligation to submit documents and change the passport remains.

Step 5

When submitting documents for obtaining a passport as a result of a divorce, a citizen is issued a temporary identity card. It is this certificate that confirms the fulfillment of the obligation to apply within the prescribed period to the passport office. In addition, this document is a full-fledged analogue of an ordinary passport, so it can be used for any other purposes, which is especially important when the application is considered for two months.
