It is not for nothing that foreigners call Russia a rather amazing country. Few people, for example, understand how it seeks to improve its economy, if almost a third of the year is officially considered holidays and just days off.
Weekend schedule
The schedule of this weekend itself looks very strange: frosty January dates in it are transferred to warm May and June, and February - to November. There are 11 national holidays in the United States, celebrated no more than one day. Among them are New Years, Christmas and the Days of Martin Luther King, Columbus, independence, inauguration, president, thanksgiving, veterans, memory and labor.
104 and 14
With the five-day working week established by Russian law, Saturdays and Sundays are designated as days off. Even in the absence of a schedule, it is easy to calculate using a regular calendar that in 2014 there will be 104 such days. Moreover, two of them - January 4 and 5 - fell on an eight-day total New Year's holidays, and February 23, like March 8, is approved a long time ago, a Russian holiday.
That is why it was decided to compensate for all four days. January dates in one stroke were postponed to May 2 and June 13, formally joining the Labor Day and Russia Day celebrated on the eve. And the officials decided to make up for the loss for those wishing to once again take a walk of the Days of the Defender of the Fatherland and the International Women's Day through additional rest on November 3 and March 10.
Thus, the number of holidays is 14. In addition to the above, the list of "red" dates of the domestic calendar-2014 includes the Days of Spring and Labor (May 1), Victory (May 9), Russia (June 12) and National Unity (November 4) … 104 and 14 add up to 118 days of good rest from work.
For those who, due to so-called industrial necessity, are forced to go to work on holidays and weekends, the Russian Labor Code guarantees a two-fold increase in basic earnings.
The holiday comes to us
After all the transfers and recalculations, the rest schedule for each calendar month of 2014 looks like this:
January -14 days: eight days off (two of them postponed to May 2 and June 13) and six separate holidays;
February - eight days off, including one holiday postponed to November 3;
March - ten days off (one of them, combined with March 8, was moved to Monday, March 10, which became an additional weekend);
April - eight days off;
May - 12 days (including nine days off and two holidays, plus the day of rest on May 2, postponed from January 4);
June - nine days off, as well as one postponed from January 5 and one holiday;
July - eight days off;
August - ten days off;
September - eight days off;
October - eight days off;
November - 12 days: ten days off, one postponed from February 23 and one holiday;
December - eight days off.
