A circus performer is a very interesting profession, but at the same time it is quite complicated. Each representative of this profession has the highest skills in one area or another. To become a circus performer, you need not only desire, but also the appropriate training.
Be prepared for difficulties
A circus performer is an unusual profession. Surely among your inner circle there will be people who will be surprised by your choice, some may even dissuade you. In addition, circus art is a rather dangerous occupation, it is associated with injuries that inevitably follow some representatives of this area of activity. You must be ready for all this, devote yourself to this profession completely and love your job.
Choose direction
There are many different types of circus activities. To become a circus performer, you need to have the skills and talent in at least one of them. This can be, for example, acrobatics, clowning, training, etc. Any of these areas has its own difficulties, they cannot be mastered in a few days. You will need patience and quite a lot of time to acquire the necessary skills. If you have experience practicing any kind of sport, for example, gymnastics or have ever been involved in sports dancing, this will greatly help you in the future. You can also take special training at a circus school to get the training you need.
Before choosing the direction in which you plan to work, you need to answer yourself a question about your fears. For example, if you are afraid of heights, acrobatics is not suitable for you, if you are afraid of animals, training is also not your direction. Determine what direction in circus art you like, and whether your fears will interfere with mastering it.
Physical training
Every circus performer, regardless of the direction in which he works, must have good physical fitness. For example, acrobats need to have good flexibility in order to perform their tricks, while gymnasts focus on the physical strength of the upper body, so they must constantly work out in gyms. Even clowning, which does not seem to require grueling physical training, cannot be effective without proper training.
Other work in the circus
Becoming an artist in a circus and going on stage for the first time, you may feel that working for the audience is not at all what you need. Such a reaction is quite expected, perhaps you love the circus, but are not ready to be a direct participant in it. In this case, you can think about working in other professions related to the circus, for example, a costume designer, circus stage director, etc.
