Step 1
According to Article 9 of the Federal Law of the Russian Federation "On Acts of Civil Status", citizens have the right to receive a repeated marriage registration certificate, the so-called duplicate. The person in respect of whom the civil status act was drawn up has the right to receive a copy of the certificate. An authorized person can also receive a copy of the document if there is a notarized power of attorney to perform this action.
In order to get a duplicate of your certificate, it is enough to contact the registry office where the marriage was registered. There you will be asked to draw up an application for the issuance of a repeated marriage registration certificate and pay the appropriate state fee. After that, already on the day of your application, you will be able to receive a second certificate in exchange for the lost one.
Step 2
Difficulties in this procedure usually arise if you are geographically located at a significant distance from the registry office where you registered your marriage. In this case, the application for the restoration of the marriage certificate will need to be sent by mail. The application must include the full names of the spouses, the date and place of registration. In addition, the application will need to enter data on the current address of residence and the address of the closest registry office to the place of residence. It is to the registry office closest to you that a copy of the marriage registration certificate will be sent, where you can get it by presenting an identity card. A notification will be sent to your residential address that a copy of the document has been sent.
Step 3
Please note that you can get a copy of the document only under a valid civil status act, that is, if the marriage was dissolved, you cannot get a duplicate of the certificate. In this case, you may be offered to prepare an extract confirming the fact of marriage registration for the corresponding period.
