Instructions

Step 1

The basic and most common set of duties of a housekeeper implies, first of all, regular cleaning, which is significantly different from the general one. In this case, it is important to do everything quickly, in the right sequence and in compliance with the key rules. To maintain cleanliness in the house, a housekeeper must be able to wipe the dust with high quality, put things in place, vacuum carpets and textiles, wash the floor and rub glass surfaces. Of course, even daily cleaning means keeping the kitchen and bathroom clean. Unfortunately, even these, at first glance, elementary manipulations are not obvious to all au pair. For example, during daily cleaning it is not at all necessary to use a large amount of household chemicals: it is better to leave floor cleaning solutions and mirror polish for general cleaning.

Step 2

General cleaning skills are a special area of expertise that a housekeeper should have. This type of work may include deep cleaning of upholstered furniture and carpets, washing lamps, cornices, baseboards, removing and preventing rust, mold, limescale. Window cleaning, curtain maintenance, cleaning inside cabinets are also included in the general cleaning.

Step 3

Clothing care is a separate item on which the housekeeper and house owners may have the greatest number of disagreements. One wrong step can ruin an expensive item. The housekeeper should be able to handle delicate fabrics, know the rules for washing things, be able to iron and fold them correctly. It is also necessary to learn the arrangement of clothes in wardrobes, to which employers are accustomed.

Step 4

The value of a housekeeper will increase markedly if she has the special knowledge that some employers require. Among them - the care and proper storage of fur products, parquet processing, cleaning of silverware, care of exotic indoor plants. Often, the housekeeper is also entrusted with the minimum necessary care for pets (hygiene, walks).

Step 5

Cooking is usually already the responsibility of the cook, but most housekeepers in ordinary families are required to do these skills as well. Of course, no one will expect such a level of culinary delights or author's table setting from an employee. The ability to cook simple and tasty dishes from ordinary ingredients is a good quality that is unlikely to be superfluous in the profession of an au pair.
