What you need to work in a taxi
Before getting a job in a taxi, you need to decide whether you will work on your own car or on the one provided by the company.
In the first case, you will need radio equipment and a taxi license (usually issued free of charge by the Department of Transportation). The license in the future can save you from problems with the tax and traffic police.
Some firms provide their drivers with walkie-talkies, sometimes they can offer to buy them at their own expense. In addition, the taxi driver's car must be equipped with a taximeter and a special light sign. It is worth considering that if you want to work not in a company, but on your own, you will need to apply for an individual entrepreneur, as well as pay a state fee.
Requirements for taxi drivers
So, you have already decided in which taxi company you want to get a job as a driver. Remember that in any serious company, be it a taxi company or a dispatch taxi, you will need to pass an interview.
Many companies only hire those with at least 3-6 years of driving experience. As a rule, this point is immediately indicated in the hiring announcement.
At the same time, it will be a big plus for you if:
- you have a driver's license of the required category (driving license of category B);
- your driving experience is at least 5 years;
- you are at least 25 years old;
- you are perfectly oriented on the terrain along which your route will run;
- you have experience of working in other taxi companies and have good references;
- you have a certificate from a psychiatrist and a narcologist confirming that you are not registered with them;
- you have not been brought to criminal or administrative responsibility;
- you have not been previously involved in serious accidents;
- you know how to use DVRs, GPS navigators, etc.
Knowledge of the area is essential not only for taxi companies that carry passengers, but also for transport companies for the delivery of goods.
In addition, such qualities as a neat appearance, politeness, punctuality and decency will be big advantages.
However, it should be borne in mind that different taxi companies have their own requirements for personnel. Somewhere age is not important and experience is needed only 3 years, and somewhere you will additionally require knowledge of a foreign language. Do not forget that working in a taxi can sometimes be dangerous; it requires the driver to resist stress and a certain knowledge of human psychology.
