On March 28, 2016, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev announced an increase in the minimum wage, the president has already signed a decree that will enter into force on July 1 of this year.
This year we will see the second increase in the minimum remuneration that employers are obliged to pay to their employees. The size of the minimum wage will increase to 7,500 rubles from July 1, 2016, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said. The value of the minimum wage will be 21% higher than the current figure.
The last time the minimum wage was increased on January 1, 2016, according to the decree of President Vladimir Putin, and today it is 6,204 rubles.
Despite the increase in the minimum wage for labor, the indicator remains significantly below the subsistence minimum of 9,452 rubles. It will take 3 years to equalize such a big difference and bring the minimum wage closer to the level of the subsistence minimum, according to the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Citizens Maxim Topilin.
The average salary in the regions of Russia for 2016 is 36,200 rubles, according to Rosstat data. This is 12 percent higher than last year.
And what about our neighbors? In Belarus, by the decree of President A. Lukashenko, from January 1, 2016, the minimum wage in Russian rubles was set at 7740.
In Ukraine, the minimum wage in 2016 is 3560 rubles. Kazakhstan has bypassed Ukraine in terms of the minimum wage - 4,500 rubles.
In Europe, there is no such thing as a minimum wage, but the state has established a minimum remuneration paid by the hour. So, in the UK, from April 1, 2016, an employee will be able to count on the equivalent of 700 rubles per hour, and in the United States, the minimum hourly wage starts at 540 rubles / hour (Arkansas).
