A foreigner or a stateless person can acquire Russian citizenship if there is a legal basis for that. To do this, if he lives in Russia, he must contact the territorial office of the FMS at the place of his permanent registration. Abroad - to the nearest consular office of the Russian Federation.

- - notarized translation of a foreign passport;
- - application of the established form;
- - confirmation of the grounds for adopting citizenship;
- - confirmation of all information specified in the application;
- - a notarized copy of the application for renunciation of the existing citizenship and confirmation of its sending by mail;
- - money to pay the state duty.
Instructions
Step 1
The first thing that FMS employees will want to see is a notarized translation into Russian of your identity document. The translation must include information about whether you have a temporary residence permit in the Russian Federation or a residence permit. It is better to clarify the requirements for documents in the consular offices of the Russian Federation abroad in where you plan to apply. Typically, this information is available on the web pages of the consulates.
Step 2
You will definitely need all documents confirming the grounds for obtaining Russian citizenship. For example, a diploma of graduation from a Russian university or secondary vocational educational institution. Or - the fact that your parents live in Russia, that one of them has Russian citizenship and your relationship with him. And others, depending on the situation. The full list of grounds is given in Art. 14 of the Federal Law "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation". You can also find it on the website of the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation.
Step 3
You will need to document all the information that you will have to indicate in the application of the established form. A sample of how to fill it out can be found on the website of the FMS of the Russian Federation, where, in particular, it is necessary to indicate information about education, availability of academic degrees, close relatives, their addresses and occupation, labor activity over the past 5 years, sources of income in Russia. documents in foreign languages must be translated into Russian and certified by a Russian notary or embassy employees.
Step 4
If you studied Russian at school or university, additional proof that you know it is not required, a diploma or certificate is enough. In other cases, you will have to pass the exam and attach the certificate issued after this procedure to the package of documents.
Step 5
If you have a foreign citizenship, you will need to write a statement of renunciation to the diplomatic mission of your country of origin in the Russian Federation, certify a copy of it with a notary, and send the original to your consulate with a receipt acknowledgment. For your country of origin, all this may not mean anything, since each has its own procedure for renouncing citizenship. And until you pass it, you will still be considered a citizen in the country of origin. There are also countries where the adoption of someone else's citizenship automatically leads to the loss of the existing one.
Step 6
Pay the state fee. The current size (in 2011, 2 thousand rubles) and details can be found in the FMS department or Sberbank branch. Payment procedure abroad - in a specific consulate. Most often, money is accepted in cash at the cash desk of a diplomatic mission.
Step 7
With all the documents, contact the FMS office or consulate at office hours. The FMS usually accepts on a first-come, first-served basis, the consulate may practice pre-registration, but not necessarily.
The term for consideration of applications for citizenship is 1 year when submitting documents in a general manner and 6 months in a simplified manner.
