Step 1
Check if you need to fill out a declaration. It is required if you are transporting items that are required to be declared. These include cash in excess of three thousand dollars in any currency at the current exchange rate, stocks and bonds worth more than ten thousand dollars, precious metals and stones (excluding personal jewelry). Also, the declaration must be filled out by those who export cultural property (art, antiques), certain types of medicines, weapons, live plants or animals. For import into Russia, consumer goods purchased abroad and worth more than sixty-five thousand rubles are also subject to declaration.
Step 2
Take two copies of the customs declaration form. Usually at airports, they are located at special counters near the "red corridor" through which people with declared items pass through the border. In case you cross the border by train, bus or car, contact the customs officer to obtain a declaration form.
Step 3
Fill out the form. Indicate your last name, first name and patronymic on it. Also write down your passport details, home address and where you are going. Also list children if they are traveling with you. Then give full details of the items in your baggage that need to be declared. Indicate their estimated cost. If you are carrying, for example, four thousand dollars in cash, then you must declare only one thousand of them.
Step 4
Sign and date at the bottom of the form. If you are not sure about the correctness of filling, or whether it is necessary to indicate this or that item in the declaration, contact the customs officer. He will help you with the paperwork.
