Not everyone is able to move up the career ladder. Success is achieved by employees who independently plan their career growth, starting from lower positions.

Instructions

Step 1

Write a complete career path, from bottom to top, with meaningful milestones in mind. The scheme can include not only positions, but also titles. For a chess player, it looks like this: fourth grade - third grade - second grade - first grade - children's coach - candidate for master of sports - regional champion - master of sports - international master - grandmaster - national champion - international grandmaster - world champion. For an employee of the company, the diagram may look something like this: sales representative - supervisor - head of department - deputy director - director.

Step 2

Mark the current situation on the diagram. The chess player can circle the item "children's coach". Now you can see which path has been covered and how many opportunities lie ahead.

Step 3

Indicate the top point you want to reach. It is not necessary to strive to the very top. A chess player can set the goal of getting the title of grandmaster, not wanting to spend energy on something more. A sales representative is not required to aspire to the position of director if he is attracted by the position of head of department. Each stage of career development requires certain efforts, i.e. have to pay the right price. Some people on the lower levels understand that they have the potential to become a director and are ready to devote several years of their lives to achieving this goal.

Step 4

Find stories of people who have walked a similar path and reached the desired level. First, it’s necessary to maintain confidence, especially if you don’t have anyone to share your dreams with. Secondly, this approach will allow you to more accurately determine the resources and what is necessary that will be needed for further planning. When you have an example in front of your eyes, it is easier to find the right ways to promote. Gather as much information as possible.

Step 5

Make a plan for reaching the required level, indicate the dates of transition from stage to stage. Note the resources needed and the actions you intend to take. If possible, show the plan to a competent person.
