The assortment of consumer goods numbers tens of thousands of items. In order to fully study the goods, you need a classification that allows you to group and organize them.
The classification of goods is the basic concept of commodity science. Classification is of great importance today in connection with the automation of control systems and information processing. It is necessary in order to:
- study of consumer qualities and properties of goods;
- planning and accounting of goods turnover;
- compilation of catalogs, price lists;
- improvement of the standardization system;
- certification and licensing of products;
- placement of goods for storage;
- conducting marketing research.
In 1994, an all-Russian classifier of products - OKP was introduced in our country, containing a list of names and codes of types of products. At each stage of the classification, the division is carried out according to the most significant technical and economic characteristics.
OKP code consists of six significant digits and one control. The first two identify the class of the product, the third - the subclass, the fourth - the group, the fifth - the subgroup, the sixth - the type of product.
In addition, there is the ICGS - International Classification of Goods and Services, which is necessary for the registration of a trademark. In accordance with the Rules for drawing up, filing and considering an application, approved by order of Rospatent dated March 5, 2003, the use of the ICGT is a prerequisite for registering a trademark. This classification exists in several languages, which greatly simplifies the application procedure.
The all-Russian classifier of TN VED is associated with the foreign economic activity of our country. This system is designed to identify and code goods during customs processing. The correct determination of their value, which includes both the amount of customs payments and the cost of delivery of goods, depends on whether the classification of goods is carried out correctly.
